This is a letter to you. Yes you, specifically you. This message contains 3 reasons as to why you should attend UpClose Weekend.
Reason Number 1: The People
Genesis 2:18 says that man is not made to be alone, and that God will craft him a helper. Yes, I know this verse is about the creation of Adam and Eve, but the truth stated here still stands. We, as humans, are not meant to live alone. We’re meant to live in communities and be in fellowship with one another. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 are another four reasons as to why we shouldn’t do life alone. In the college season it’s difficult to get those relationships and you feel like you’re walking life alone.
Great people are hard to find and even harder to keep around, but here’s a solution for you: attend UpClose. This event is filled with people that want you to be there, want to get to know you and get close to you. They want you to understand that you’re not alone, you’re part of the family in Christ. Even if you don’t think anything will come from attending, I can bet you you’re wrong. You’ll leave with friends, and not just any friends that you’ll text maybe once or twice and then never talk to again. I am talking about friends that will continue to stay by your side and do life with you, be in fellowship with you, just like the Bible tells us that we should.
Reason Number 2: The Fun
I’m going to be honest with you: UpClose is fun. You can choose whatever you want to believe, if you think I’m just saying this to get you to attend, so be it but there’s a reason you are reading this blog written by me, a current EC student, and that reason is the fun I had at my first and only UpClose weekend I attended. I had no plans about doing EC when I attended the UpClose weekend last year. The only hope I had was that I would be introduced to some cool people (which I was) and walk away with some new friends (which I did). I had no intentions of doing EC but when my mom picked me up at the end of the day my only thought was about how I needed this in my life.
It was fun. The best fun I’ve had in years. Probably the most fun I can remember having in my teenage years. It was great. UpClose was a splash of color and excitement and fun in what was turning out to be a drab gray first year of college. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 talks about how there is a season for everything in our lives, and I can’t help but get the feeling that UpClose lives up to what it states: a time to cast away stones, a time to dance, and a time to laugh.
Reason Number 3: God
If those first two reasons weren’t convincing enough, here’s a third and it’s a doozy. Come to UpClose because of God. I’m not saying that you can’t find God in other places, because let’s be honest, He is with us always. I’m saying that when two or more gather in His name, just like it says in Matthew 18:20, He is there with us. There’s something amazing about being in a group of people that are around the same age as you, believing in the same things as you, live life worshiping God just like you do. It’s hard to describe a feeling in writing, and as a writer I am definitely not to the stage where I can properly describe what feeling the presence of God is like, but believe me when I say that He is present during UpClose. It’s something you just have to feel to understand and I pray that you’ll attend and get that chance.
UpClose is just a sliver of what we do on a daily basis with our relationship with God. That’s what EC is all about, growing in fellowship with other believers and growing spiritually in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. It’s just a glimpse of what every Tuesday and Thursday is like, just a taste of the classes and activities and fun that we have together on this journey, and journey that I would gladly have you join.
You’ve got about a week and a half to sign up for UpClose, and I can’t wait to see you there.
Blessings and hope to see you soon!
