Can I be honest with you?

EC is not easy.

At times you will be stressed and feel bogged down with a ton of things. Life will seem like it never stops and you may doubt you are learning anything. It will seem too overwhelming and there might be a moment when you just want to quit.

Please don’t!

I myself have been at this point. It isn’t fun and it seems to never end. But I made it through and I could not be more excited to be starting my second year. So what I have for you are a few simple ways that helped me when I felt overwhelmed.

1. Prioritize a few weeks out

Keep a planner or calendar with everything important in it. Now don’t try to be a perfectionist, but just getting a schedule of what you have to come will seriously ease your mind!

2. Dive into the Word even when you don't have time

This seems so simple, but can honestly be one of the hardest steps. God doesn’t want us to have a complicated life. He wants us to be happy. So when life gets too overwhelming, find a pocket of time and dive into His word deeper than you feel you can. You will be amazed at how you feel after!

3. Talk it out with someone

A good place to start is your RA or housemates. Believe it or not, we have all been in a situation that we are unsure of how to solve. The ones you live with may have been through that exact thing, or something similar. They are there to help you through anything. All you have to do is talk with them. I can say personally that I am extremely grateful for the four ladies I lived with last year. Each one of them helped me grow in some way. Sometimes it would just be me talking and them listening, while other times it would be the other way around. Either way, I learned a lot and I was able to get through things easier because of their love and support. You’re fellow EC classmates are here to be your friend. Take us up on the offer! :)

4. Forget everything and dance (or sing) it out

As silly as this sounds, it actually helps a lot. Life gets busy and fun quickly goes out the window. Take 5 minutes, usually the length of one song, and just dance it out! I can’t tell you how many times Sydney and I did this in our kitchen. :P

This next year will be an amazing year of growth, stretching, friendships, and fun. You will be challenged at times and then shouting out joy the next. My prayer for you as you join us on this journey in August is to know that you are not alone. When the world feels like it is crashing in, know that there are 35 other students there to brace it with you. So don’t fret. EC will be a blast! In the end you will love every minute.

See you soon!
