Psalm 51:10  - “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Spring is here, and boy oh boy is it nice! The seemingly endless winter has officially packed up and left southwest Michigan! With the warm weather, comes lots of activities, some much needed Vitamin D, and a good old fashioned spring cleaning. In addition to sweeping behind the fridge, and dusting off the shelves, I want to invite you to do some spiritual spring cleaning this season! I truly believe that God has some incredible things in store for you in this upcoming season, and doing some spiritual cleaning will help jumpstart His plans in your life! Here are three basic pointers to help you begin your spring cleaning

  • Draw near to God, He will cleanse your heart

The first and best step in a heart cleanse is drawing near to the Lord! We can ask Him to reveal things to us, and He will help show us the way. Psalm 139:23 says “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Hebrews 10:22 says “ let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

  • Check your filter (the mind)

In Romans 12:2, the bible says “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” This is something that we can always focus on. Renewing our mind in the word of God, and getting the junk that is in the world out of us, and replacing it with truth, life, and love!

  • Shed some weight

Speaking of spring, and warm weather. We’re all trying to get fit, and lose those few extra pounds gained over winter. Hebrews 12:1 says “let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” Sin is unnecessary baggage, so spend some time this week taking the trash out, and removing the sin in your life!

The most important step of this all, will be spending time with Jesus, and growing and developing your relationship with Him. Walking with Him every moment of the day will not only increase the Joy in your life, but it will help decrease the leftover junk. He will renew a steadfast spirit in you, to help you walk in His will, and experience the victorious christian life! So remember, as you’re cleaning your house, to draw near to God, renew your mind, and remove the heavy baggage that is keeping you from reaching your potential! Happy Spring!
